In general, we live in a selfish world, but we have the power within ourselves to change that.
It really is the smallest acts of kindness that make someones day.
“How beautiful a day can be when kindness touches it!”-George Elliston
I value kindness. I consider myself to be a giving person. I believe in the play it forward concept.
Imagine what this world would be like if everyone believed in play it forward. Imagine what the world would be like if everyone performed a random act of kindness each day.
The following was originally posted on my blog in April of 2009. I decided to repost it today, because having a tragedy like the one in Haiti has reminded me that we are capable of showing kindness.
Do you have what it takes to change the world?
“Someone once said “Don’t wait for people to be friendly, show them how.”
We can make a big difference in life. Our kind actions do affect those around us. Through giving, I’ve found that my life has meaning.
An online acquaintance of mine once asked me the following question: “Do you know why the Dead Sea is dead?”
Of course I didn’t know. His answer to the questions was:
“The dead sea is dead, because the water flows only one way. It does nothing but take, like many people we know.”
He compared me to the Atlantic. He said that I both take and give, therefore I thrive and give life to others.
It’s nice to know that someone saw me as the Atlantic.
Remember: “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” ~Aesop
Can you think of something someone has done recently that has meant a lot to you?
What are some ways of showing kindness?
Professor Chuck Wall of Bakersfield College, coined the phrase Random acts of kidness.
What random act of kindness will you perform today?
You can be one of those amazing people who’s overflows with the milk of human kindness.
Showing kindness even on a small level can have an effect on the world that we live in.

Hi Rose,
) to see so many reference to acts of random kindness. It was only today that I discovered lots of lovely genuine comments had ended up in our spam folder (yours included I’m afraid) so I stopped by to thank you for visiting and wow, look what you’re writing about
I’m finding it quite uncanny (and maybe just a little unsettling
I totally agree with what you’ve written today (obviously
) and thank you for making a difference.

I perform acts of kindness when ever I percieve someone nearby who could use assistance.. Usually for me this happens in the store, like when an older gentleman couldn’t get plastic, stacked barrels appart, or another woman couldn’t find an item, but I knew where it would be n walked them there, even tho I’m not an employee, n am in a hurry to get to work on time.
My variation of this theme is: The world is still turning only because a person helps another person, who helps another person, who helps another person, (which is fueling the planet’s rotation!)
I’ve managed to impress this upon several folks in my travels so far-

Just as a little bit of time adds up each day over a long haul, so does being kind add up the more often we do it in our daily lives.
More people should be kind just because they can and they would see the change in the world they want to happen through their own giving to others.
Great article!

So easy yet so neglected. We get caught in a society based on trade, so the human part takes a second place; then we wonder what’s wrong and feel disconnected from each other.
Little gestures can make the circle start turning in the opposite direction, the right one, and posts like these remind us all that we can do it.
Thank you Rose for this post

That’s really inspiring.
Going through major renovations in my house kind of made me forget the importance of being nice.
Thanks for the reminder Rose..
