How do I write a good blog post title?
Today I thought I’d take another look at writing a good blog post title.
The title of your post is what draws readers in and gives them reason to read your post that is why writing an effect title (header) is important.
Your subject title should be SEO friendly
When writing post titles, think from a users perspective. What would they type into the search engines that would lead them to your blog post.
If you’re not sure what keywords to use, try keywords tools such as Google’s Adwords or Word-tracker.
Remember one of the factors that affects your position in Google search engine results pages is your blog title.
Tip: Do not stuff your title with keywords.
Have you every searched something in Google and found yourself clicking through to a blog post, and the title of the post is irrelevant to the content of the post?
I wrote about what could happen if you use too many keywords or irrelevant keywords in my post “using the right keywords.”
Your title should reflect what the content of the post is about. Ask yourself is the subject of the post clearly illustrated in the title?
Keep your blog titles short. In the pass I’ve made the mistake of writing too long of a post title.

Sometimes I just throw caution to the wind and write catchy titles just to get noticed.
I’m getting regular traffic for keywords such as “pubes” ‘shaved pubes” “my moms pubes” “new pubes” etc from a post titled, “Look mom! My blog’s sprouting pubes”.

Rose – I swear that you had a piece not long ago with NO title; I noticed when I saw you had updated on my sidebar. But you must have changed it, because I don’t find it now.
There are people who never put titles on their blog pieces. It is bothersome.

I tend to write a title immediately, but leave it open for change as I write. Many times my post takes on a new direction thus making the original title irrelevant.
Then, there are times when I write a title more for myself such as in my ‘Oh, No You Di’nt!’ post. This doesn’t really tell anyone anything which is okay, but using All in One SEO my title shows as ‘Installed oDesk and it Crashed My MacBook Display – Help!’ After all, I was asking for help and that is what I did right before my display went wacky.

I wish I had a little bit kmore skill when it came to picking out my blog titles, I use to be pretty decent at posting titles on forums and stuff but lost the edge when I started blogging. Now I just write them as I think of them.

Nine times out of ten, I write the title before the content. One time out of ten, I change the title after I change the content. I expanded upon this notion at http://ariwriter.com/why-i-write-blog-titles-before-blog-posts/ if interested.

I always know what I’m going to write about, so I write it up front so I don’t have to go back and change it, since WP automatically gives you a numeric link.
I have to admit that I haven’t really worried all that much about the SEO aspects of a good title. I also don’t often write salacious titles just to try to titillate someone into thinking it’s about something that it’s not. It is definitely a way to go, though.

I normally know what I’m going to write about too, but I leave the title to the end so I can do a bit of keyword research.

Yeah Titles are so important. I believe it can make or break a blog post. It is what draws the attention of the reader and entices them to click and read further.
I like to write titles that are sometime controversial. Sometimes similar to current news. But that only lasts for so long.
Sometimes just weird way out titles.
Title have to be catchy,

I usually just write a blog post title and force myself to bring out a great article from that and work it into having something to do with blogging and helping people in some way.
This may not work for everyone but so far has been doing something positive for me.
What do you think?

@Rose DesRochers:
I’d have to admit that I don’t do keyword research on my blog posts. I do it for websites, but if I was doing it for blogging also it would feel too much like work.

Hi Rose
There are some titles that make you want to read the articles… they grab your imagination.
I try and write titles that look interesting and will draw people in.
If you stick to your keywords for titles, it’s not easy to make them interesting!
SEO plugins, such as the one most of us use… allow you to have a different title to the one displayed on the article.
This means you can have an interesting title and a good SEO title.
