My Wellbutrin Experience

September 7th, 2009 by Rose DesRochers · 4 Comments

As many of you may or may not know I suffer from depression. After five years of being on celexa (which causes both weight gain and memory loss) I switched to Wellbutrin XL. This post is mainly for anyone who might be Googling the side effects of Wellbutrin XL. Wellbutrin XL is also used to help people quit smoking. I don’t smoke, but I know I’m now feeling more sensitive to smoke.

I recently started taking Bupropion Wellbutrin XL 150mg. The doctor proscribed 1 tab every day for the first week. He then then increased it to two a day for the 300mg dose.

I was fine on the 150mg dose, but once he switched it to 300mg I experienced dizziness, nausea, changes in taste, headache, increased sweating, and trouble sleeping.

I must say that I really don’t like the side effects of Wellbutrin. I know this medication isn’t for everyone and I’m trying hard to stick with it. I do hope the side effects go away soon.

I did lower my dosage today back down to 150 mg and will update this post after a month.

If you are taking or have taken Wellbutrin XL, please feel free to share your experience with the medication.

Do any of you suffer from depression and if so what medication if any has worked for you?

If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?

Hi Rose, tho I get a little down from time to time I do not have to go through depression and my heart goes out to you, as I’ve heard what a hell it can be.

I imagine you have Googled all you an about Wellbutrin, so I’m zero help to you today.

Will try to keep posting the funny stuff, tho. So that’ll be my small contribution.

I’ve never taken Wellbutrin, because I had very good luck with a low dose of Zoloft. Good luck, and do keep us updated.

I got myself off the Wellbutrin as quickly as my doctor would allow because of the side effects. I stopped sleeping and could barely keep food down the first couple of weeks I was on it. I was too sensitive to smells (especially smoke) almost to function.

I’m not on any medication for my depression anymore. I have found that St. John’s Wart in a glass of water helps enough to keep my moods regular with very few if any side effects.

Hope it all works out for you Rose. Depression is a horrible thing to live with and unfortunately there is no real cure for it.

My cocktail of lexapro and abilify has slowly petered out of usefulness and I’d lost my taste for life. My Dr. just added Wellbutrin to the mix last weekend and I’m slowly regaining an interest in the world.

    Side effects I’ve noticed:
    -Increased anxiety
    -Loss of appetite
    -Increase of libido
