Washington State has a ban on all handheld cell phones, but it’s a secondary offense. A cop has to cite the driver for another reason other than using a cell phone. I think the only exception is emergency calls. My biggest pet peeve is drivers who don’t pay attention to people in the crosswalks. On the flip side of that, my other big pet peeve is pedestrians who cross against the light on a really busy street. This happened one rainy night, and the people crossing the street were wearing dark clothing. We saw them just in time, but they yelled and screamed at us all the same.

One of my biggest gripes is people turning left after the light has turned red. A teen did that here a couple of years ago, was in an accident, and her passenger was killed. The passenger was her grandmother.

I’ve almost been killed as a pedestrian by cell phone users , even though the handheld ones are (allegedly) banned in NYS. As for speeding: everything I’ve read indicates that going faster than 60 mph wastes gasoline. But I don’t expect them to get off the road; I think they’ve bought into the multitasking myth.

Love this post Rose, my pet peeve are drivers who feel they are so important they have to talk on the cell phone while driving, many a time people have almost run into me while on their cell.
