I think it may be from Ada Willows, a pioneering woman that settled the territory way back when. She was fond of asking if she can do things, hence, Canada.

well, I don’t know the answer to that question, other than that ‘vintage’ commercial where the guy says it means village. lol … don’t you love those commercials? I took a Canadian Studies course at university and we did an entire segment on them all … when you watch them all together like that it’s kinda funny. “I smell burnt toast!”
