Kill the popups and no I’m not talking about the online game. This is something that many of you may not be aware of. Recently in the blogger help group I have seen a few bloggers complaining about pop-ups on their blog. Each of these blogs installed code from rankwidget.com.
Once they removed the code the popups went away. This isn’t surprising. Rankwidget has hidden code for advertising that allows them to run popup ads on your blog. If you are looking to paste the rankwidget code into your blog, you might want to give it a second thought.

I wonder who thought that annoying pop-up ads would be a great idea and that the internet community would enjoy them? I almost always refuse to go back to a site with a pop-up window.

When did you find that it was rankwidget dot com? I am not sure if this is the only widget causing problems, have you heard of any others?

Ah the dreaded pop ups seem to happen everywhere. They need to be killed permanently.

A couple of days ago. If memory serves me someone was getting unwanted popups with Altra Visel Babble fish.

Hi, may I know how to remove RankWidget from my blog? It seems like there’s something within my template that is causing the problem.

On of the most insidious kinds of “bots” that can be installed– illegally– on a site by a hacker are pop ups. The pop-ups can then do malicious things in a bot-net with the user IP.
