oopsss…i didn’t know it either, … nywazz…i had seen this movie namesake n now undertsand y it was named so.Im the only girl in my family n my grndma was longing for a female child n prayed a lot.So when i was born, i was named after a goddess..Chikku however is my petname n is the name of a fruit.

@Peter, Mothers Day in Britain was not invented for commercial reasons, it was originally a religious day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mothering_Sunday
I do suspect though that Father’s day was invented for the commercial reasons that you mention.
I for one have never celebrated Father’s day, my Dad said he never believed in it as he always thought that it was for commercial reasons, so it was never part of our family

I was specifically and interntionally named after no one. My parents, esp. my father, wanted me to have my own identity. Ironically, he named my sister after HIMSELF (Leslie).

Doesn’t every blog need a post about choking a chicken in the name of Mothers Day? Mine was sorely missing that, thus I posted it! And my Mum even read the post today and left a hello message. Which was quite scary.

I am an Australian living in the UK so the fact that Mothers Day is not synchronised around the world can make things quite confusing.

Although, given that Mothers Day was probably invented for commerical reasons (e.g. hallmark) I don’t feel that bad about it – I am sure my mum understands.
