Princeton Premier- I Smell Spam

January 30th, 2008 by Rose DesRochers · 53 Comments

Jason Harris- Managing Director of Princeton Premier sent me an email today. It seems that I’m being considered for inclusion into the 2008-2009 Princeton Premier Business Leaders and Professionals “Honors Edition” section of the registry.

According to the email “The 2008-2009 edition of the Registry will include biographies of the world’s most accomplished individuals.” Wait! They want to include me?

Something smelled a little spammy here so I Googled Princeton Premier and what would you know several individuals received the same email.

What made me so special? Not a darn thing!

Don’t you just love the smell of spam? I wonder how many unsuspecting victims will complete the application form and return it to Princeton Premier within five business days to be be listed among other accomplished individuals in the Princeton Premier Registry.

If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?

    Rose,

Not just spammy - but costly. A friend of mine proceeded - and after submitting her info etc - she was politely asked to please pay x-Dollars to be included and receive a free trip.

You are familiar enough with the net that you caught it right away. As you said, some would not have.

But Rose, you are pretty special still!

Much to my surprise, I got one today. I thought wow! Princeton knows me! (That’s a modest America uni, right?) Then a split second later I thought: spamalot! (duh), so googled and found you. Many thanks for a very useful posting. Coffee’s on me next time we’re both in the princeton caff.
    cheers

I feel very distubred by what the things you have commented about you are sinply wiggly worms I have been published with Princeton Premier Registry and I do say I am satisfied you must not be a succesful person I must say.
    Thank you

I too have been selected (puffing out chest:>)
and I too googled to find out what the scam was.

My nephew was selected to be in published book of poetry, he bit. Got published but he paid dearly for his copy of a very small run of books. But he’s proud and it’s on his resume lol

  • Tara AUSTRALIA Windows XP Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.11 // Feb 8, 2008 at 11:44 pm

Got the same email. I guess that’s why I’m here.
    Seemed somewhat suspicious, google-d it.
I am certainly NOT one of the worlds most accomplished individuals!

    btw..
I think being a wiggling worm is one of the most endearing insults I have ever come across as well!

I find it mildly amusing that there could be so many people who are willing to criticize an organazation without knowing a thing about them . I am a member of the Princeton Premier and have been for over a year . Not only did the company pay for the airfare for my last vacation , I’ve met several professionals that I would not have made contact with if not for my invovlement with the Princeton Premier. I urge you to look beyond what you think and call the company to find out more before you blast them on the web as a scam. Their customer service is fantastic and they will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

I just got the message too, having had some nice nice news today of promotion at the (UK) university I work at. Bloody hell, I thought, that’s quick. My spam-related suspicions were confirmed by Googling, as seems to be the case with most of these comments. But am I overreacting in thinking that it’s just a bit scary how easily these folks can personally address these messages? It makes it so much more credible it it’s topped with your actual name. How do they do it?

  • B.D. UNITED STATES Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0 // Mar 6, 2008 at 12:10 am

I just got my Princeton Premier spam e-mail today! Finally, I feel like I belong! I especially love that the link sends you to a pretty basic form that asks for personal information. No website. No info on this supposed “prestigious” list. Just a simple page with a few fields to populate. Genius. Not!!!!

$8.95 per month to access to countless executives and professionals sound slike a good deal to me.. hey rose freelance writer and poet really means unemployed!!! doesnt seem like your too business savvy. if you need any advice im here for you

  • Rose DesRochers CANADA Windows XP Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.12 // Mar 6, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Arthur, Being a freelancer does not mean unemployed. It means being your own boss, but think what you will. Thanks for wasting five min of my day with your drivel.

  • robertmcbean CANADA Windows XP Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.12 // Mar 6, 2008 at 5:48 pm

Arthur, that wasn’t very nice. Didn’t your mother teach you manners? I don’t think you should be offering business advice after paying 9 bucks to get on a directory that has very dubious value. If I’m wrong get one of your newly found countless executive friends to give me a call.

Anyway, I’m starting my own directory. And I’m willing to let all of you on this thread as “Pioneer” members. Believe me, this will be big.

and that’s how i came across this site  Rose, thanks for your blog  Too bad tho! For a little while I felt proud and “FAMOUS”

  • amy UNITED STATES Windows XP Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.12 // Mar 14, 2008 at 2:50 pm

Unbelievable stuff. I just wish the folks they target knew automatically — they would go out of business if their spamming didn’t turn over profit.

Let’s keep this post high on Google!

The best part of “Princeton Premier” is that it is located in Astoria, NY, which is Queens. Huh? I should go check it out one day since I teach at Queensborough Community College.

To the folks googling about Princeton Premier, don’t fall prey to Jason Harris. He’ll send the email to anyone with an email address, hoping for a little bit of profit.

  • Lisa UNITED STATES Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0 // Mar 15, 2008 at 1:31 pm

Unfortunetly, I didn’t even have a brief euphoric response to my letter from Mr. Harris as some of you did- I figured it was a scam as soon as I saw “Princeton Premier” in my inbox. Not to discredit my skills, but I am way to fresh into my career for me to be considered one of the most accomplished professionals in the world. Don’t we all just love spam and the time it consumes? Thanks to your postings, I now know I am not alone!

    Thanks all!

    Hey,

I recently received that same “Princeton Premier” e-mail. I got a little giddy at first, flustered, you know…”Of all the fellas in the world I’ve been chosen” and all that jazz. Then, I realized that although I am a bit accomplished, and slightly distinguished, that I still didn’t rank among the top business execs in the world. Thank you, your blog helped to expose a potentially costly left click.

  • Mr. BigShot UNITED STATES Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0 // Mar 27, 2008 at 2:29 am

Well I have been noted for a thing or two, and one thing you can be sure of: if an “Important Person’s Registry” wants YOU to pay for the privilege of being on their list, it’s not legit.

Think about it, to be a useful resource for ‘Notables’ a Registry has to have all of ‘em, not just those that are willing to pay for the privilege.

Frankly, in the USA, the only one that means anything is Marquis Who’s Who. You can’t buy your way in, and they’ve been doing this since 1899, a lot longer than Spam has existed.

Oh, and you don’t have to pay anything to be included, just measure up to their required standards.

No, I don’t work for them, and yes, I do measure up (I’m in 5 of their Indexes, let’s just say I’ve had an interesting and varied career)
