Today in History – January 14th

January 14th, 2008 by Rose DesRochers · 6 Comments

January 14, 1990 “Simpsons” premiered on Fox-TV. What were they thinking? From then on TV went to crap. Can you tell that I’m not a fan of the Simpsons? Today in history, January 14, 1976 “The Bionic Woman” with Lindsay Wagner debut on ABC. Now that was when TV was interesting to watch.

Namaste’ Rose! When that series (simpsons) started I had just started high school 14 years old and and it was on super late like midnight I think? and I remember thinking this show is going to take off big time, as that is where some attitudes were heading, ;0) hahaha it was some seriously changing times as then it did get worse from there ,there was melrose place and beverly hills 90210 I mean what happened to shows like the facts of life, cosby show, Family ties and the ilk of the time? gee I am sure glad as a *little* kid I did not have what they have available NOW for kids and teens on T.V. I am glad to see degrassi the 2nd generation (avid fan) the past 7 years as that show was amazing as a younger child watching the first generation.

You are exactly right Rose, it is also the birth date of my ex-husband which I akin to the sign of the “666.” The Simpsons have begat Family Guy and Family Guy have begat American Dad ….oh how we have stumbled.

Believe it or not, I’ve never watched a single episode of The Simpson’s and I didn’t even know for years that he was supposed to work at a nuclear power plant, even though I worked at one. ( haven’t seen Family Guy or American Dad, either) Don’t know as I’ve missed anything, either ;)

Have you seen the new bionic woman yet? Completely disappointing imho. You know those great sound effects when Jaimie would run or jump? They lame – ified it, plus while the actress is good, she (or her double) can’t jump for jack. So sad. I gave it three whole shows before i finally gave up on it. I wanted to like it, I really did.

Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad, what type of impression are these shows reflecting on our youth that watch this type of American Crap TV.

When Bart Simpson always replys to his dad by first name or tells him to not have a cow etc. etc. etc…

Evening television needs a drastic make over, what happen to quality sit coms that had fundamentals, good old fashioned humor or a learning lesson – it was still enjoyable for the entire family…

    I miss the oldies…
