Trick or Treat - Happy Halloween

October 31st, 2007 by Rose DesRochers · 9 Comments

I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween! I didn’t get a chance to sneak this in earlier. Tonight we took my son out. It was a lovely night for trick or treating. How old do you think is too old for trick or treating. Last week my friend and I had a discussion over coffee regarding the cut-off age for trick or treating.

This year my son is 13, and according to him this was his last year. (We’ll see) He went out tonight dressed as a Prince, but he was not as enthused as he was other years. Tonight was a sad reminder that my baby boy is growing up.

The cut off age for my daughter was her first year of high school. I recall my last year of trick or treating was grade nine too. I went out with a friend of mine and I dressed up as a cabbage patch doll. No, I don’t have pictures.

I’ll miss taking my children out trick or treating, just as I miss Santa Claus, The tooth fairy and the Easter Bunny.

Ok, I’m going to cry now. I hope that you all had a safe and Happy Halloween.

Happy Halloween

If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?

Hope you had a happy Halloween Rose.
My last year of trick-or-treating was 6th grade. Last night I even commented that the teenagers really annoy me. Because my 3 year old was trying to trick-or-treat, and he’s an only child, then gangs of teenagers were barging up in front of him and stuff like that. I saw a TON of kids out last night that I thought were too old and really ruin it for the little tots. I also saw a gang of teens in my neighborhood, and I have to admit they really made me nervous. I’m scared of teens. :/

Emerald thank you for the offer.

Gerri, Here some teen held another child by gun point and took his candy. It was an air rifle. How sad is that. Not all teens are bad, but the bad ones spoil it for those who are good.

I noticed the kids were getting older and older as the night wore on.

I even passed a few pieces of candy out to parents which they seemed to appreciate.

Rose: Not all teens are bad, I agree. It’s the ones that are that really ruin it for all of them. I really believe it’s a product of bad parenting. I don’t think any kids starts out bad. That is terrifying that a kid would rob another kid at gunpoint for candy!

Michael: I got a couple of pieces of candy from people like you while we were out. It’s much appreciated! :)

I think that your son has it about right. Kids older than 12 or 13 should be interested in other things. I think I was probably about 12 the last time that I went.

We were in North Little Rock late afternoon on Halloween and there were a heck of lot of kids out on JFK Boulevard in costume. Most of the businesses had tables set up outside with treats and many of the employees were in costume as well. All of the major crossroads had police officers directing traffic and there was a very visible police presence along the whole route. We were just driving through on our way home, so we don’t know what it was like later, but it already looked like some of the kids were making a very nice haul of candy.

I can not believe that somebody would hold a kid at gunpoint for candy. That shows how sad our world is.

Thanks mom for taking me out trick or treating!

Last year a kid in our area got given sweets that had been tampered with. The child was one of 3 and got really ill. After being taken to hospital they found that there were traces of drugs.

Luckily the child was the eldest of the 3. Had it been one of the younger two, the doctors said they would have died.

So, this year we decided to have a sort of “indoors” halloween party. Bought all the sweets and food ourselves, had some friends over and everyone had a really great time :)

    I love halloween!!

We had some teen…older teens come by our house this year as well. My son who will be 10 in a few months thinks that this year will have been his last year as well. We’ll see! He loves all the goodies.

Btw, Emerald, I have also never been trick-0r-treating.
