Ok I’m pissed folks. I interrupt your regular reading pleasure to rant.
Anyone who has been following this blog may have noticed the debate taking place on Wordpress 2.3 Released.
It would appear that Matt Mullenweg the creator of Wordpress has some critiques and now the anti-Matt Mullenweg brigade has invaded my blog.
I allowed the Matt brigade and Matt to comment on that discussion, but I draw the line at personal attacks. Today Mike Wendell left a comment on my blog that was an attack at Matt. I edited the comment and told them no personal attacks.
Well it would appear that Mike Wendell now thinks that I’m close minded. Mike left the following review on bloggingfusion.com where I’m an editor.
“Blogger appears to be rather closed minded and limits herself to only those views that match her own. She appears to not be willing to even acknowledge that other opinions may exist.”
I have no opinion on what kind of guy Matt is. I know nothing about Matt Mullenweg aside from knowing he created Wordpress. Matt Mullenweg is not a regular reader of this blog as far as I know. I am just someone who uses the Wordpress platform. Why on earth should I judge a guy I don’t know? Because of all this Mike left a negative review. Was the review honest or did he do it because he was pissed off that I would not allow him to attack Matt here on my blog?
I have put drmike comment back as it was. I have edited out one word from the original comment that boarded on libel, but I’m going to ask the anti-Matt Mullenweg brigade to take their problems with Matt somewhere else .
This blog is not the place for it damn it to heck.
Now back to your regular schedule program.

Gee…, it seems like all of the fun happens here when I’m off traveling or being sick.
I did go back and read the comments. It was interesting, but I do think that personal attacks on a commenter on someone else’s blog are out of place.

ouch! Not the best start to the week.
I think your right in editing/removing personal attacks. No one wants to read those. They aren’t constructive forms of critisism.

First, Rose, I must apologize for starting the debate. When I saw Matt’s comment, it rubbed me the wrong way and my only intention was to point out an ommitted fact.
I didn’t get a chance to read Mike’s original comment, but certainly agree that when it degrades into personal attacks, it no longer becomes constructive.
There’s no reason for anyone to attack someone (or even start name calling). I may question Matt’s methods, motives, and point out the shortcomings of his decisions, but I would certainly draw the line at name-calling or judging Matt as a person without knowing him personally and I always try to provide a solution to whatever I see as the problem.
Regarding the edit of the comment, it’s your blog and it’s your call. Personally believe you made the right one. Plus, I don’t think you’re all that close-minded considering your allowed all the comments to remain, even the ones you may not have agreed with.

I politely point out that at the beginning I was very pro-WordPress. If I hadn’t been, I wouldn’t have spent nearly two years answering over 7 thousand questions for them in the wp.com forums. I point out that there maybe a very good reason why I am angry. I got used by Matt and the rest of the WordPress staff. I got treated with very little respect by them.
How would you feel if after spending months you got a written slap across the face like I did from an organization that you went out of your way to help and assist?
Yes, I was very angry from your editing that you did on my comment. To be honest, I still am. It troubled me that you left Matt’s comment intact while editing mine. I do not feel that we’ve made any “false assumptions.” I feel that your editing of my comment did show a one sideness to an issue.
You mention in your own header that this blog is about “controversial topics.” I would think and I do hope that this means you do look at both sides. From your actions, that appeared to me to not be the case.
I have nothing to be sorry about. I do not think my comment to be “boarded on libel.” I stand by my comment. I did try to respect your blog by not listing many examples that I could have. Trust me, I could have.
On another blog, Matt’s comments were recently moderated by the blog admin and it was noted that what he said were lies.
Please remember my first comment. There’s a lot more to this story than you are aware of.

Mike- Well I’m afraid you are going to be “angry” with me again.
I contemplated back & forth if I was going to publish your comment & I have decided to publish a portion of it.
To answer your question. My blog is about controversial topics yes. By that I mean the age of sexual consent- abortion- gay rights- internet safety etc. These are all things I’m passionate about.
A Wordpress squabble between two individuals is not among thing I’m passionate about.
While I can sympathize with your situation having been in similar situations myself I really want this all to end.
I don’t know what went on accept for what you told me & I don’t care. It does NOT involve me.
My blog is really not the place for all this drama.
I don’t know you personally nor do I know Matt nor do I participate in the Wordpress forums.
Aside from being a blogging friend of Lorelle Vanfossen I don’t really no anyone involve that much with Wordpress.
There are no sides to be taken here and your comment was more than I care to subject my readership too.
I am also angry that you left a negative review about my blog just because you were pissed off at me. That does not say much about your character.
I put your previous comment back as it was- taking out the one comment you made about Matt.
I’m the publisher, and I decide what does & does NOT get publish here.
Now I have been fair- I allowed you all to comment on something that was WAY off topic with regards to the post about Wordpress- spying. If you recall that was the original post.
There may be more to this story, but I don’t care. I really don’t care!
