You may not even realize it, but your blog could be vulnerable to an attack. Blogs being hijacked by sploggers is a growing problem.
How are blogs hijacked?
Many blogs are hijacked through password theft.
How do you prevent it?
- You can prevent it by strengthening your password. Remember to change your password regularly.
- Do not delete your Blogger blog. If you no longer wish to blog, delete the content, but not the blog.
- If you are using a public computer always log out of blogger and never put the check mark in the remember your password box. You should always decline any prompts that requests you to store passwords for a page.
- If you have your own server and have Wordpress installed make sure that you update it periodically with the latest software. Keep your eyes open for reports of any security releases in Wordpress. Whenever I’ve had to do a security upgrade, I’ve always found the story on Wordpress. You can also join the Wordpress mailing list for release notifications.
- Make sure to use a secure connection when logging into your Wordpress admin panel.
- Make sure your permissions are set in Wordpress. Wordpress codex has an excellent article on setting file permissions.
- Be sure to always make backups of your blog.
These tips of course won’t make your blog hackproof, but it is wise steps to take to perhaps prevent blog hijacking.
I also recommend that Wordpress users read Hardening Wordpress.

If you make a full backup of your blog every few days you should be okay. You should also consider saving your template folder and your plugins folder to your desktop, just in case you need to totally reinstall wordpress.

I use the WordPress Database Backup plugin to automatically back up my blog. You can set it to backup hourly, daily, or weekly. Of course the plugin does not back up your WordPress Theme and Plugins.
