How to Backup a Blogger Blog

August 29th, 2007 by Rose DesRochers · 5 Comments

Can you imagine the horror of logging into your Blogger blog and finding your blog, deleted and all your posts gone? It can happen. That is why it is important to backup your blog.

How do you backup your blogger blog?

Blogger does not have an export or download function. Blogger does provide a tutorial on how to create a single file with all your posts which you may publish and then copy to your own computer. See: How do I create a backup of my entire blog?

Backup your comments

Blogger has an option to send you an email when someone leaves a comment on your blog. To enable this feature log into your blog and click on setting, comments and scroll to the bottom where it says “Comment notification address.” You’ll now be able to collect all your comments. Save these comments in a word document or in a folder in your email client.

Email your posts

Each of your blog posts can be automatically sent to you, by using Blogger’s BlogSend feature. To configure this, go to Settings – Email. Save each of your posts in a folder on your computer.

Other Methods for Backing up your Blog

If you want to save an entire copy of your Blogger blog you can do so by using the new Blogger Backup utility.

From Google Operating System: How to Backup a Blogger Blog

“To download all the photos uploaded to your blog, DownThemAll comes to the rescue. The Firefox extension lets you download all the files with a certain extension from the current page, so it’s a good way to download all the images from the previous listing.”

HTTrack, is a free and open source copier, which lets you download an entire Web site to your computer.

Backup your Blogger template

To backup your template, sign in to Blogger, click on template, edit html, and there you will have the option to download your full template. If you are using a classic Blogger theme you will need to copy all the text in the template box and then opening notepad on your computer, and pasting the copied template into notepad.

Blogger really needs a built-in backup system. I don’t really know why they haven’t added one yet?

I’m going to help my gf get setup with a blog soon (probably starting with a free blogger blog), so this info is really helpful! (as always :P )
