Today Carl from Think Viral Marketing asked me “What is a blog meme?”
The term Meme was coined by Richard Dawkins in The Selfish Gene (1976). A meme is a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation.
Say what? Let me try to explain this in simple terms.
A blog meme is simply an idea, quizz, survey or a question that gets passed around from one blog to another. Things like the Rockin Girl Blogger, Funny Monday, Thinking blog award, Thursday Thirteen, Friday Feast, The View from my Front Door, Wordless Wednesday, Chinese Freeze Tag are all considered to be blog memes.
People link to these blog memes and pass them around on their blogs. Blog memes are certainly not for everyone, but if you can start a blog meme that will spread and eventually link back to you, then it is a great form of linkbaiting.
If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?
