Blogging can be a huge popularity contest. Every new blogger is looking for reciprocal link partners. Forget the reciprocal link requests.
The best way to get others to link to your blog is to provide interesting content that they will want to link to. It is as simple as that. Focus on content and getting to know other bloggers.
The links will follow. How do the top bloggers do it? They write interesting content that others will want to link to. If you don’t believe me, why not read the secret confessions of a recovering link-a-holic. This well known establish blogger says, “Blog well and the links will follow.” Believe me, he is right!

Rose, you don’t know how timely this post was. Now all I have to do is learn how to write well.

I’m amused by this, since I just got done writing an article on a very similar topic (it won’t be published until tomorrow) — i.e. link spammers. Life is…serendipitous.
It’s a good reminder, I think.

Playing the reciprocal link game to me has always seemed to be a waste of time.
If someone asks me to do a reciprocal link, I first go look at their site to see if the content is something that I’m interested in or might want to share with others. If it is, then I’ll link. If not, I won’t.
I have never asked anyone to link to any of my pages, that I can recall, and I have been building web pages for nearly 10 years. To me, content has always been king.

I don’t know. I have a different take on this whole link issue. I definitely understand the importance of links (moving up the blog-food chain and all), and I definintely agree that a quest for links is an obsession with some bloggers, but for me? I honestly don’t care. I blog because it balances the logical side of my brain - it’s fun and my venue to get creative. It always tickles, and amazes me, that people read my blog at all considering most of what I post is pure nonsense or a record of my life so that I won’t forget it. (I have a terrible memory).
It’s certainly an awesome feeling when the stats go up, but it’s definitely not something I think a lot about.

Carl you already write well.
Mike I have asked for reciprocal link partners for my community, but not my blog.
Karen, I’m glad that you dropped by my blog and I think that you have a great take on the issue.

Not only do I not know what a reciprical link is, I can’t even figure out how to add my link to Funny Monday, lol. I should just give up now.

Hmm. My problem is that although I write well, I write really long posts. I’ll bet readers feel intimidated by my blog

It is extremely difficult to get reciprocal links.
On my site, I’ve found that the best one for that naturally is an article I posted helping Xbox 360 owners with their NAT settings.
Unfortunately this doesn’t have a lot to do with the rest of my site. lol - I should have setup a seperate website in retrospect
