Over the last couple of years of blogging I’ve learned a few ways to help promote my blog. I thought that I would share these tips with other bloggers. Here are some ways that I have found to be successful in marketing ones blog.
- Make sure that you have submitted your blog to the main search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN/Live. To see how to get listed in the major search engines, please refer to my article Major Search Engine Submission: How to get listed in Google, Yahoo and Msn.
- Submit your site to blog directories. You will find a list of blog directories that I recommend in my post “Blog Directories – Where to Submit your Blog.”
- Participate in social networking sites such as Mybloglog.
- Make it easy for your readers to bookmark your blog on social networking sites such as del.icio.us, digg, reditt, and stumbleupon. If you are using Wordpress, wp-notable is a great plugin to use.
- Offer to guest blog on other blogs.
- Offer content that people will want to link to and provide an easy way for them to link to that content. If you are using Wordpress you can use the Link to Me Textbox or the Wordpress Link Building Plugin: Blog This Post.
- Ping the main blog search engines each time that you update your blog.
- Join discussion forums in your niche. But don’t just join, participate in those forums.
- Convert some of your existing posts into articles. Submit those articles to article directories like isnare.com, and searchwarp.com. Include a link to your blog in your byline. Bloggertalk.net accepts articles about blogging, Wordpress, SEO,Video Blogging and podcasting. By submitting quality articles to Blogger Talk, you’ll receive a one-way link to your site from a PageRank 5 website.
- Start your own meme like I have done with Funny Monday or your own networking idea.
- Write a review on Amazon, providing a link back to your blog.
- Network with other bloggers. Read and leave comments on their blog.
- Join Technorati, and claim your blog there.
- Host a contest that creates a buzz in the blogosphere.
- Answers questions from other bloggers. Volunteer your time at a blogging community, or Blogger Help Group. You may just be recognized by Blogger. (Rose DesRochers Official Google’s Blogger Blog*Star)
- Spend time creating links and trackbacks.
- Get a link back from an “A list blogger.” (Darren Rowse) and Lorelle VanFossen have both linked to my blog.
If you have any further tips, share them. Better yet enter my blog contest for a chance to win a copy of Blogosphere: The New Political Arena written by Michael Keren.

That’s a really good list Rose. Looking through it, I’ve done a lot of them, but not all. I’ll have to change that.
One thing you didn’t mention is participating in blog carnivals. I’ve heard a lot of good things about them. Have you ever tried one?

“Write a review on Amazon, providing a link back to your blog”….what an excellent suggestion, never thought of it before! I’ve written quite a few posts, recommending books to my readers that they can find on Amazon, there’s no reason why I shouldn’t visit those pages and submit my opinions on them.

Jolynn you should. You can even create a Profile at Amazon with your link as I have done.
