For as little as $19.99 you too can be a comment spammer.
I was reading tech.blorge.com today, and came across this post about a new type of blog comment spam service offered by Jon Waraas, the owner of Developer Hut, Inc who describes himself as an unethical swearing marketer. Unethitical is right!
The new service ‘Buy Blog Comments’ offers to leave spam comments at a rate of 100 comments for $19.99, 500 comments for $99.99 and 1000 comments for $199.99.
Quoting from their website.
Blog comments help your site rank better in the SERPs. We hired a few people who go through a list of blogs in a database we set up and pick out blogs that are in your niche. They then read through blog posts and leave a comment that has to do with the blog post they read, that way it wont get deleted. Your backlink will then be on a targeted blog, giving you more weight in the search engines.
Darren Rowse of problogger also blogged about the service in his article “Buy Blog Comments - A Sick New Comment Spam Service Launches.” Rowse refers to is as one of the worst business ideas he has heard of in a long time. Darren says that it is something that bloggers should stand up against.
I could not agree more. Unbelievable! If comment spam was not already bad enough, we now have buyblogcomments.com.
Having read John’s blog he doesn’t appear to mind the publicity. Though they say there’s no such thing as bad publicity, I have to wonder if publicity at such a cost is really a good thing.
With the launch of Buy Blog comments this is one more reason to use comment moderation and make sure that you have Akismet installed on your blog.

Hi. I’ve read the post of Darren Rowse and I agree to both of your opinion. The only problems is, these comments will be done by people so it would be difficult to identify them as spam. And these people who are going to do the comment will read a post before they comment to make sure that their comment will not be deleted.
Nice post.

I totally agree with your opinion. Most of people want to see the reaction after they left their comments.

:shock:I am totally against this service.
This may get your PR rank up a notch, but no REAL people will be a dedicated readers on your blog by using a service like this. Imagine this Spammer Business going under… The Customers will be cursing their ads off!

I doubt this will become popular, but the guy got a lot of publicity from it so he wins either way in short term.
Hopefully it will disappear quickly!

Already Hammer?
Thomas who knows. Look how popular comment spam is. Akismet has caught 57,270 spam for me since I first installed it.
Ian how dare you spam my blog. I’m getting out my wet noodles.
Ross me too. Me too!
Zawadi I hope his business does go under.
Rocky I bet I can spot it.

I haven’t gotten any blog spam, but I still get them on my Yahoo guestbooks. I suppose I could transfer my genalogy site into a blog and make it more interactive for the viewers.

If the people they hire are clever they might be able to get some comments in even for people with discerning eyes. For instance, lets say you have someone who moderates their comments. What if someone puts something really generic as a comment. If it isn’t obvious spam the site owner would find themselves in a tricky place. Is the comment a trick or did the reader just not want to post a lot? I personally find the whole idea horrible. I hate that we all need to be even more careful just because someone thought up this idea.
