Remove your phone number from Yahoo Search

July 3rd, 2007 by Rose DesRochers · 5 Comments

Are you aware that if your telephone number is listed in Yahoo’s database that anyone can get detailed directions to your home?

Protect your privacy by removing your information.

Yahoo give you the option of removing all your residential listing information from their database. All you have to do is fill out a short form (Remove Phone Listing.)

Please note this only removes you from Yahoo. Yahoo recommends that if you wish to be completely unlisted that you contact your local phone company and request to be both unlisted and unpublished.

In the U.S., there’s a people search engine called zabasearch.com… Try to input your name or any real person name and chances are they have you listed. Very common listings like all your known address/billing address, phone numbers that might have been registered to you and even your birthday! Scary!

I lived in the U.S. for a couple of years 2000-2001 and I moved around a lot probably lived in 4 different homes and then I left the country for good. I stumbled upon this site in 2003, searched my name. Low and behold, my name appeared there 3 times with 3 of the addrresses I lived in. To date, I still see my information there. I heard in the news sometime in 2004 this site got shut down because they were charging people money to get other people’s more sensitive information like the social security number. I think they got sued but for some reason they are back up again.

Anyone who really WANTS to find me probably will. Just so long as I don’t find my cats stapled to my front door or something…
