Remove your phone number from Google Search

Did you know that your phone number may be listed in Google. If it is then anyone can find out where you live with map quest.

Google has a feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar and be given the person’s name and address. If you hit Mapquest, you will get directions to the person’s house.

This is dangerous because if your child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives.

I tested a few Canadian numbers and noted it did not work, but it did work with a US number I tested.

This is really dangerous.

According to a blogging friend of mine Viola, you can block your number by clicking on your telephone number and then click on the removal form. Removal takes 48-hours. Thank you Viola for alerting me about this.

It might also be wise to remove your phone number from any online phone book too.

If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?

Ours is unlisted. We get very few funky calls.

Thanks Rose for making people aware of this. This information did not fit my style of blog posts but I figured you would post it. Super for always staying on top of things.

Just one more reason to use a cell phone as your primary phone (cell numbers are not tracked by Google).
