Photo Hunt: Antique Memories

February 17th, 2007 by Rose DesRochers · 33 Comments

This week’s photo hunt theme is antique. My daughter asked if she could post a photo of me. Isn’t she the sweetest thing? I’m far from an antique. “Laugh”

Poetry Book

The first photo pictured here is a book of poems dating back to 1897. It was written by Elizabeth Gifford and left to me by my mother.

Grandma Grace

This is a photo of my Grandmother Grace. I’m not even sure how old the photo is. I never met my Grandmother. She passed away in 1968, the year before I was born.

If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?

How awesome to have that book. I never met my paternal grandmother either. She died a few years before I was born too. I sure wish I had gotten to know her and listen to all her stories. She got to see only 4 of her grandchildren. So sad.

    Thanks for stopping by.

Boy, to have a book dating that far back is really neat. The picture of your grandmother is really nice. It’s fun seeing how they dress in the different eras.

    Have a great weekend,
    Biker Betty :)

That is such a wonderful picture of your grandmother, something to cherish. And there’s nothing like an old book.

Old books are wonderful. We have an old Bible in the family for many generations now. It has birth records, marriages.. even graduations listed in the front. I also have several letters from both of my grandmothers that I cherish as they have passed away. You can’t help looking at an old book and wondering about the persons who owned it or read it… what were they thinking and doing and did they love the book?

Isn’t it wonderful to have old family books and pictures? It gives you such a sense of connectedness. And it looks like the poetry gene has been in your family for a while.

How fascinating? Does it have any writing inside or on the flyleaf? What a lovely keepsake.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. And in answer to your question, I think at this point the 1960’s may qualify as abit “antique”..LOL.

    Happy weekend!

I love old books. I have a few here in boxes that I haven’t unpacked yet. There is something wonderful about holding a book in your hand that has been lovingly cherished for all these years.

You are a spring chicken! HA…in 1968 I’d already graduated from high school. See, I qualify as an antique…over 50!! Cool pictures.

Most days I feel like an antique, does that count?

I never knew my maternal grandmother, she died three months after I was born but I did know my paternal grandmother quite well and she was an excellent grandmother! I still use quite a few of her sayings to this day – I like to call them “Granny-isms”!

Thanks for sharing the great photos!

What a beautiful woman your grandmother was. I don’t think anything can be as special as a book of poetry. It reveals a lot about the owner of the book. You are very fortunate.

I hope that get well soon, I don’t have many old photos of my grandmother here in Ohio but my mom keeps all of the family’s history in her closet room back in Connecticut.
    Great choice

If we are antiques, we have ‘aged’ beautifully! I love that you thought of the book. I totally forgot about mine: “Masterpieces of the World’s Best Literature”, edited by Jeanette L. Gilder in 1910
and the “Chief American Poets”, edited by Curtis Hidden Page 1905. . . Neither in great condition, I used to read them in high school.

I love that your grandmother had her hat on in the photo.
