Thursday Thirteen: 13 Ways to Say “I Love You” this Valentines

February 8th, 2007 by Rose DesRochers · 22 Comments

Thursday Thirteen

(This is my Thursday Thirteen post.)

There’s only one week until Valentine’s Day. Is it just me or is there this huge guilt trip put on us each year to “show our love” by contributing to the pockets of the retailers.

Isn’t it pathetic that they are shoving heart-shaped chocolate boxes, cuddly stuffed animals, and candy hearts with little sayings on them in our face way before the Christmas decorations are taken down. Forgive me if I decline to enthusiastically join this commercialized holiday ritual, but so you don’t think that I’m unromantic I bring you 13 ways to say I love you and a few other goodies.

Romance your love one this Valentine. Tell them that you love them in 13 different languages.

13 ways to say I love You
Chinese: Wo ie ni
Spanish: Te amo
Russian: Ya lyublyu tebya
French: Je t’aime
Dutch: Ik hou van jou
German: Ich liebe Dich
Italian: Ti amo
Irish: taim i’ ngra leat
Philipino: Mahal Kita
Polish: Ja Cie Kocham or Kocham Cie
Icelandic: ‘g elska ßig
Japanese: Kimi o ai shiteru
Latin:

Te amo

Shun-lak-koon is how you say, “I love you” in Thai! :)

I loved how you wrote all the different “I love you’s” out. Very creative!

I also loved the movies you listed about too.

Hi there! Here via the Thursday Thirteen special edition.

I had to laugh when I saw the movie list – my sweetie and I have seen all of them, some multiple times (and yes, sometimes there’s some tearing up)…

Valentine’s is a Hallmark holiday. I definitely don’t necessarily partake in all the valentine’s commercial holiday stuff.

btw, a much more romantic way of saying “I love you” in japanese would be “anata o aishiteru” instead of using kimi. :P not a biggie, but just saying.

I think I have to say for romantic movies, the notebook on that list may be the best. If not ever, IMHO. All great movies though some of them really upset me.

and for songs, can I offer one of my favourites, Ice Cream by Sarah McLachlan. I love that song. Of course, people don’t seem to think it’s so romantic but I do!

Great lists and 3 for the price of one. The movies are all great ones. The song list has a decidedly 80’s feel to it. Love them all.

Hi Rose: I found a list where I have seen and am familiar with every item! Your movies! I really liked Hope Floats. It tanked at the box office, but I thought it was charming.

I’ve always been partial to the Romance languages of Spanish, French and Italian. No matter what is said, it always sounds good!
LOL! We did similar Romantic movie T13s. I forgot about Dirty Dancing, and another movie I liked, but forgot about with Keanu Reeves was a Walk in the Clouds. Great list of movies.
    Happy Thursday!

What a great idea for the thirteen! I especially love the ways to say I love you list. (Did you notice you have Russian listed twice?)

The Note Book is the greatest love movie ever!

Thanks for checking out my blog.

    Wow, triple Thursday Thirteen!

I’ve never seen A Walk To Remember, but I came in at the end when my wife was watching it, and she was plowing through some Kleenex.

I always liked that song Lady In Red.

    Cool set of lists!

Oh valentine’s day, how I loathe thee. Though, I shall be using the excuse for a good meal and an opportunity to get all dolled up anyway! :D

City of Angels is a good movie. Happy Thursday!

Loved getting a triple list. I didn’t know all the movies, but Love Actually is one we watch a lot together. The Meat Loaf and Chris Burg song are in my top ten songs, along with a song from the Cars that I can never remember the title of.

    Oh, I couldn’t agree more…it’s way over-commercialized nowadays. It’s just Valentine’s Day, people!

Just wait–they’re going to find a way to really commercialize St. Patrick’s Day next…

I am not a Valentines person…don’t care to be on the giving or receiving end. And I’m a little annoyed that as a “Room Mom” I have to help come up with something to entertain 24 fifth graders for this non-holiday!

So I recommend that all people with similar thoughts go to:

One of my favourite romantic movies: Don Juan de Marco with Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando. Byran Adams song (from this movie) “Have you ever really loved a woman” was the first dance at my wedding.

Loved reading through triple lists. I’m new to TT. Would love for you to stop by!
