Rose DesRochers: Question of the Week - Ungrateful People

December 11th, 2006 by Rose DesRochers · 9 Comments

A rose is a rose is a rose and my heart has been pierced by thorns.

In October along with fellow Canadians I celebrated a holiday where I gave thanks. If you’re American you just celebrated this holiday on November 23rd. Every year on Thanksgiving, families gather around the table to enjoy a meal and give thanks, but what about the other 364 days of the year?

Sadly the world is full of ungrateful people.

Man is unkind

I crave for a language the deaf can hear
and the blind can see
I learned a lesson,
kindness from the unkind
yet I’m ungrateful to my teacher
Greed is a fat troll and no matter how much
I feed him it is never enough
He demands more, tolerates no less

The above are verse from my poem “Man is unkind.”

The bible states, “Love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.” Luke 6:35-36

May I continue to be kind to the ungrateful.

I did not post a question for Sunday so I leave you with something to think about and maybe even to blog about.

Why are people so ungrateful?

Beautifully put and as I said earlier it describes how i feel about life at the moment.

Why are people so ungrateful? That’s life for you. Most only look out for themselves and think of the helpful as weak to be exploited.

Maybe because they get lost in the trivialities of life. and the society of today just perpuates selfish nature, rewarding those who take everything for themselves with money and high status at work. its an interesting question, and i find when people are not selfish, or do a selfless deed, people protest against it.

A lot of people are ungrateful because they are quick to forget what all they are given, they lust after material objects, and forget that no matter what you have if you don’t have the love of God or your family then everything else pales in comparison.

We should all be grateful for what we have and for each day that is given to us ((HUGS))

I personally have been guilty of this in many aspects over the years.. Something I continue to struggle with and work on..

Even Christmas is involved and dragged into the greedy status. In too many cases, it’s all about what you can get instead of give. God gave his son to the world. It should be all about giving but sadly it’s not. And, yes, once some people get something, they want more and more.

This is a tough question and I think is best anwered through our own eyes after we take a good hard long look at ourselves. We are all a little guilty of ungratefulness in one way or another. We chose to pick at anothers faults because we actually see them. None of us are perfect and if we were then there would be no need for questions such as this. I have no answer to eradicate ungratefulness but we can all ease it a little by thanking the Good Lord each morning for the gift of life. Thank You for listening to me and may God Bless You All, Paul

    Why are people so ungrateful??

They have been taught to be that way.

Very nice poem. It is very true, sadly enough. Just last night I gave my daughter an early Christmas present, and although she was excited I noticed she never even said thank you, and I was kind of crushed by that. I mean we have always pushed please and thank you, and so I would expect her to say it all on her own without a reminder by now. Perhaps she was just too excited and forgot…

No good deed goes unpunished. Sayings like this teach us the wrong things but then you have people proving this saying to be correct over and over again.

Just do what you know is right and either people get it or they don’t but at least YOU will know you did the right thing.
