In 1999, Blogger started as a small company in San Francisco called Pyra Labs. In 2003 Googlepurchased Prya Labs.
At that time they had 1.1 million registered users. Today the free blog service is seeing enormous growth. August 2006, Google’s Blogger service added 568K sites. They have outspaced GoDaddy according to reports.
But with all growth comes problems. Google has been taken a great deal of slack from the Blogspot blogosphere over recent outages.
If you are a Blogspot Blogger who is sick of all the problems then how do you think Blogger staff feels? Put yourself in their shoes for one moment. Problems arise ! Just as we have to upgrade our computer, hosting services like Blogger have to upgrade their servers.
Hardware malfunctions, servers crash etc. It may be a nuisance, but it happens.
Google Blogger has simply outgrown the current version of Blogger and Beta Blogger will no doubt be more stable.
Just as Microsoft releases new version to handle new technology, Blogger is upgrading to handle the traffic load of all those using Blogger.
I have been in Blogger shoes when my website todays-woman.net outgrew its shared hosting.
The Blogger team published an apology and are making changes to improve their services. I think those using blogger as their platform of choice should cut Google a little slack.
Just because it’s a free service that does not mean you are not responsible for your own blog by not keeping backups especially of your template in case something does go wrong.

Some how I manage to miss all the blogger problems. I’ve never had any.

I agree…. the way I see it, it’s a free service, and for the price, it’s an excellent service. The occasional hang ups with the server and such, it’s just a good excuse for me to stop fiddling with the blog and get back to work
I back up my templates, but I don’t know how to back up old posts, so I would really hate it if something major happens and the old posts get deleted somehow. Right now, I’m happy with the free service. I hope they don’t decide to hold the blogs ransom someday and start charging for the service.

I’m actually quite happy with blogger as well, despite its recent outages. I sure don’t envy Blogger employees. Bloggger has just outgrown itself, and it sounds like Google is well on the way to rectifying the problem with Blogger Beta. I’m still considering going to Word Press though. I have been guilty of not backing up my template on my Internet Security & Privacy Blog By the way, thanks for visiting my Trying To Make Money Online Blog Gotta run. Keep up the good work.
