Overweight Risk Soars 41% With Each Daily Can of Diet Soft Drink
I don’t drink diet drinks because of aspartame, but I found this 2005 study in WebMD Medical News interesting. “People who drink diet soft drinks don’t lose weight. In fact, they gain weight, a new study shows.” “The findings come from eight years of data collected by Sharon P. Fowler, MPH, and colleagues at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio.” The full article can be read at ‘Drink More Diet Soda, Gain More Weight.’
The next time I see some Barbie drinking a diet coke thinking she won’t gain weight, I’m tempted to tell her that diet drink will go right to her ass.
If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?

Dam it. I drink diet Coke all the time. I thought it was the better option.

Now, Rose, that would be awful unkind.
What you should do, is ask her if she would like another one, your treat…
Sorry to hear about your loss. There are no words. If you are interested, feel free to pop over to my other site. It’s all about that loss you feel when you loose a child.
I haven’t posted in months, too painful, but it’s there if you want to take a look.

I’ve seen this study but don’t put much stock in it – if that were true I know people that should be obese! How many times have you seen someone getting a big mac, fries and a DIET coke? I think that people drink diet and then go have something else to take it’s place. Imo, it’s all about moderation in the end – if you are eating healthy and working out a diet soda every now and then is not going to cause you to balloon!
lol at the Barbie comment!

So the study actually had people starting to drink the diet soft drink and then gain wait? I must admit my first reaction that it just could be that more of the people who drink the diet varieties may be a bit heavier than those who don’t. But if there’s a causal link there ….. wow. A surprise.

I think it has more to do with the supa-sized fries and burger they have with their diet coke, while at McDonald’s, than the diet coke itself!

Interesting. Makes me glad I only drink water, and occasionally coffee, tea or juice. I gave up soft drinks a few years ago.

Thanks to all those who replied! According to studies, if you drink a 2-liter bottle of pop, you instantly gain 4.4 pounds. If you drink a lot of pop a weight change can happen rather fast. I’m experiencing water retention and the accompanying weight gain that comes with it. The specialist that I saw recommended that I stay away from soft drinks and salt. Therefore I think that there is some truth in the study!
