I heard about it via Google alert yesterday and now it has been confirmed, India has banned access to Blogspot, Typepad, Geocities and more than 15 other websites.
India has “joined the Internet Filtering Club of China, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Ethiopia.” I can’t say that I blame India bloggers for being angry at the way the ban was imposed.
The banned blogs are accessible by logging in through third party websites. This certainly sounds like internet censorship to me.

At a time like this, given the situation over there, people’s self-expression, particularly through writing, should not be so strictly cut off.

I totally agree with Rosemary. This is just taking away more freedoms. But then again, they aren’t America so their government, as far as I know (I’m no expect for sure), doesn’t really give them the same freedoms as we have here.

Wow, that’s so unfair! Every blogger out there should do an “India Sucks” post now!

It doesn’t work. Blocking a site by type does not work.
for just five US dollars one can grab a cheap php host and a copy of any one of about 30 different OpenSource packages and setup a blog. Add wiki’s, CMS and the like and there are hundreds of platforms to choose from.
It is however wrong. Ban a subject, sure but a method… no that’s out right wrong.
