In an earlier post which is located here, I mentioned how Billy Bragg had pulled his songs from MySpace, due to a clause in the MySpace Terms of Service which gave MySpace the right to sub-license Billy Bragg’s music to any company MySpace wanted and keep the royalities themselves without paying Billy Bragg a penny.
Well it looks as though, Bill Bragg’s protest has led to a change in MySpace’s Terms of Service.
Could this be a step forward for the popular social networking site?
But for every one step forward, there is Two Steps Back.
MySpace is planning new restrictions on how adults may contact its younger users in response to growing concerns about the safety of teenagers who frequent the site, but those new security measures won’t be enough to stop online child predators.
If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?

What will be enough to stop online predators?!?! I do not think I have any answers just it seems like as long as there is an internet there will be some avenue for predators.

i think what will help somewhat is knowledge and education.
sounds stupid, huh, but what i mean is, teach teenagers how to use the internet safely, be involved(?) in what your kids do on-line, talk about it openly, discuss it, if teenagers or kids use the internet at a friends house talk to their parents, work together. it’s only a small step, but it’s one step closer…. in swedish schools we have now started to discuss how to use the internet, who to talk to, what to say etc etc. on swedish websites when teenagers sign up most websites send them guidelines on what do if a pedophile contacts them. on some sites we even have to register our social security number to sign up so that they more easily can track pedophiles, yet still it doesn’t seem to stop pedophiles using these site to the extent that we would wish for. but it helps somewhat…. but i guess the answer is never that simple…

flicka is correct in that education is the only workable answer.

Education is the answer and parents have a responsibility to their children, but MySpace also has a responsibility.
