June 6th 2006 Doomsday: My Hospital Visit

Is There a Doctor in the House?

I dislike hospitals, and spending six hours there, was too long. As some of you know for the last year I’ve been undergoing tests to find out the cause of my leg & ankle swelling.

I have most symptoms of Edema, which is defined as a condition of abnormally large fluid volume in the circulatory system or in tissues between the body’s cells (interstitial spaces). However, Doctors do not know for sure.

Several physicians have diagnosed it to be different things. July 10th, I see a rheumatologist. Last week my wrist started to pain and my arm began to swell.

Last night the pain was unbearable, so Shawn & the kids made me go to emergency.

I spent six hours in emergency. They took eight tubes of blood from me.

They are running test to check kidney function, thyroid and diabetes, among other things. My blood pressure is rather high, and the doctor recommended that I continue taking hydrochlorothiazide & reduce stress. Hydrochlorothiazide is used to lower blood pressure and to decrease edema (swelling).

The doctor, also proscribed a diuretic to decrease the fluid retention. However she instructed me not to take it, until the results of my blood test come in.

She was suppose to call me this am, but didn’t and the hospital cannot release the information. Therefore, they suggested I wait and call emergency at midnight, when she comes on shift.

I would be lying if I didn’t say I ‘m scared. If it was serious, I’m sure she would have called, unless the results were not back yet.

Today I don’t feel well at all. I have a severe headache and pain on the left side of my neck and to top it off, the bracelet they put on my wrist read 6/6/06.

Today is doomsday and though I don’t think the world is going to end- my life better not end.

Ok, so I’m over reacting but when it concerns my health- you bet your ass I’m scared.

Thank you to those who have added me to their prayer list.

When things like this happen- you begin to appreciate each day given to you.

So just stop worrying. I am sure the doctors have it under control!

Rose, I too take the same pill you do for hypertension. I also take another 22 pills a day. They are the prescribed ones. On top of that, I take 2 vitamin supplements. I understand the swelling as I get it too. And I HATE our hospital here in town. The nurses suck and even if you are bleeding to death, you’ll wait at least 2 hours before you EVEN get into a room. then you wait another 2 hours before the doctor comes. I grew up in hospitals when I was a child really sick with epilepsy so I am used to them, but it does not mean I ENJOY them any!!!! I hope you find your results. You would not be normal if you were not a little concerned. Who wouldn’t be? Prayers going up for you and your family.

PS. my brother’s birthday was today. His birthday this year was 06, 06, 06. He turned 39. So if he can survive a birthday on 666, you can survive the hospital on that day LOL.
